Unknown 2
All Right!!! Now We are starting to
cook.
Unknown 2 is a little more complex than #1 was. You each have 1 or 2
chemicals from the Barium-Magnesium group. It will require steps 23 through 27 in
your instructions.
When solving this unknown please follow instructions
carefully.
Procedure 23: If you touch the sides of the test tube with litmus
paper you get false +. (Why? What did you just add to the test tube?)
Procedure
24: Make sure precipitation (if any is complete).
Procedure 25: Make sure
precipitation (if any is complete).
Procedure 27: If all other tests are
negative you have either Na+ or K+. Do a flame test on your straight unknown.
Compare it to the standard Na+ and standard K+ solutions Mr.K. has.
